I stumbled across the Operation Nice blog last week from another blog that I read. Basically, Melissa was having a rough day when someone's small act of kindness made it a better day for her. She started the blog to remind herself and others to be nice to everyone you see.
Anyway, this week was the 2-year anniversary of the blog and to celebrate, she asked people to make Nice Notes and give them away. I thought it was a terrific idea, so I made a lot of them and put them in my purse to take around with me. We had some yellow card stock in the recycling bin at work that only had some simple text on the back, so I figured it was the perfect chance to upcycle the waste into a happy day.
They made me happier just writing them, so I hoped they would give others joy from receiving them. I took them with me to the farmer's market and gave one to everyone that I interacted with. Some didn't react much, but some of them really seemed to like it and smiled.
Most of the cards have quotes about smiling or laughing and all say have a good day, in one form or another. I continued at Goodwill and the cashiers there were really happy to receive them. I have about 20 left in my wallet and I intend to continue this with every tip or interaction that I have. I have an oil change scheduled this afternoon, so I'll take them there and to the grocery store as well.
I think it's a great idea to share a little sunshine and it makes your day better as you do so. I'll update y'all on any special stories that happen. Let me know if you do this yourselves, too. And check out the other notes posted at Operation Nice and tell Melissa if you participate, too. Thank you Melissa & Operation Nice for the idea!!
